Plantersville, Texas (October 5, 2011)—Choose Your Own Adventure This Fall!  The King & Queen invite Houstonians and patrons from across the country and around the world to experience the authentic sights, sounds and smells of the 16th century at the 37th Annual Texas Renaissance Festival (www.texrenfest.com), the largest and most acclaimed Renaissance festival in the nation.  History comes alive for eight magically themed family-friendly weekends this fall in the festival’s magical New Market Village, featuring hundreds of daily performances and demonstrations, games, contests, activities, international feasting options, shopping and more from October 8 through November 27, 2011.  The 2011 Texas Renaissance Festival is presented by Bud Light and Coca-Cola

The highly anticipated festival will take place Saturdays, Sundays and Thanksgiving Friday, spanning a total of 17 days, offering patrons a variety of new attractions and performances along with eight themed villages featuring international feasting options, more than 500 costumed performers and hundreds of shows and demonstrations each day!  Explore nearly 60 acres of the New Market Village featuring almost 400 shoppes overflowing with unique arts, handmade crafts, clothing, jewelry and more!        

Join us EVERY Sunday for Family Day presented by Coca-Cola offering families the opportunity to participate in kid-friendly games, contests and activities as well as family-friendly programming throughout the day. 

The 2011 Texas Renaissance Festival themed weekends include:

OPENING WEEKEND: Celebrate Oktoberfest presented by Bud Light (Oct. 8 & 9); Journey to Bavaria and the Black Forest as the air echoes with traditional German music, dancing and more! Take part in daily competitions including:

o   Masskrugstemmen: Bavarian Stein-holdingcontest

o   Polka dancingcontest

o   Bratwurst eatingcontest

 

1001 Dreams(Oct.15 & 16); Let the dream begin as the New Market Village falls under an enchanted spell with fairies flitting among the gardens and wizards gathering to perform acts of wonder and amazement!

Pirate Adventure(Oct. 22 & 23); Swashbucklers from the seven seas come ashore for His Majesty’s Pirate Adventure and take part in the Talk Like A Pirate Contest, Pirate Treasure Hunt and more!

All Hallows Eve(Oct. 29& 30); Phantoms, hobgoblins and devils emerge from the shadows to join in the fun with the Kettle Corn Eating Contest, Pumpkin Carving Contest and more!

Roman Bacchanal(Nov. 5 & 6); The Legions have returned and all are invited to don a toga and hoist a jug of vino in their honor!

Highland Fling(Nov. 12 & 13); Spin to the music of the pipes in our Highland Dance Contest, show off your kilt in the Bonnie Knees or join in the fun of the Great Sheep Hunt Competition!

Barbarian Invasion(Nov. 19 & 20); The hordes invade the New Market Village as barbarians from every realm come to pillage and plunder!

CLOSING WEEKEND: A Celtic Christmas presented by DeMontrond (Nov. 25, 26 & 27); The special three-day closing weekend event will welcome Father Christmas to the New Market Village as the Yuletide spirit fills the air and the Royal Family ushers in the holiday season in royal fashion!

 

In the tradition of London’s Royal Fireworks above the Thames, the New Market Village will present a special Royal Finale in honor of the King & Queen.  Marking the close of the day, the Royal Finale: Queen Titania’s Magical Light Show will take place at dark above the Arena. This magical display of mystical dancing lights will be accompanied by the music of Tartanic.

The traditional Royal Fireworks display was replaced this season due to the extreme drought conditions and the burn ban currently in place in Grimes County.

The 7th Annual School Days program will take place on November 1 & 2 and offer public, private and home school students in grades K-12 the opportunity to jump into history with a series of hands-on programs, demonstrations, competitions and more!  This year the festival will partner with the Houston Symphony for the musical portion of the School Day events offering guidance, advice and more from the Symphony’s Roger Daily, Director, Music Matters!  In addition, the Houston Aeros have partnered with the festival for School Days offering complimentary hockey tickets to all winners in non-performance categories.
