Dear Texas Renaissance Festival Guests,
First of all, we wish to thank you for your patronage of our Festival. Secondly, we want to sincerely apologize for the large number of traffic delays our guests encountered in recent weeks. We understand how very frustrating it can be to have to wait in long, slow moving lines without any idea of how long it will take to reach your destination.
We do everything we can to try to keep traffic moving and minimize wait times. We coordinate with law enforcement and municipal and county coordinators across three different counties. We employ and place law enforcement officers at every major intersection coming into the Festival from both north and south. We have traffic cameras placed along the route so that we can get a visual count of the number of cars on the road and how fast they are moving. We employ nearly 100 parking lot attendants to get people in and out of the Festival grounds as efficiently as possible.
However, with all of those measures in place, we are limited by road design and infrastructure constraints, specifically we currently have one, 2-lane road leading into the Festival. We are also constrained by trains passing through the area, and the fact that the population growth in the area has added more non-Festival traffic on the area roads.
We are taking every proactive step possible to alleviate this problem for our Festival guests. On Monday, November 21, 2016, a meeting was held by TRF management with representatives of the Montgomery, Waller, and Grimes County Sheriff’s Departments, as well as Montgomery County Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley to develop an action plan to alleviate any further congestion.
In the meantime, for those planning to attend the final weekend of the Festival, we recommend using the following alternative routes to avoid possible delays due to maintenance and construction:
