History of our Official HostCity – City of Magnolia
Magnolia's roots trace back to
1840 when Montgomery County's southern boundary reached Spring Creek. First
called Mink in 1885, the town officially became Magnolia in 1903 and grew into
a bustling lumber and farming hub with sawmills, shops, and a railroad depot.
Voters incorporated Magnolia as a city on October 15, 1968, with Cedric Smith
as its first mayor. The historic Depot, now at 426 Melton Street, remains a
treasured centerpiece of downtown on the National Register of Historic Places.
